Safety Guidelines and Medication Contraindications

To ensure a safe and successful waxing, sugaring, or beauty treatment, it is essential to be aware of how certain medications and skincare products affect skin sensitivity. Some products can cause the skin to become fragile, increasing the risk of "lifting" or irritation during hair removal.

Important: If you are currently using or have recently used any of the following, please consult a dermatologist before booking your service.

Medication and Product Watchlist

The following substances are known to significantly increase skin sensitivity:

  • Accutane (Acne medication)

  • Adapalene (Acne medication)

  • Alustra (Retin A)

  • Avage (Tazorac - Acne medication)

  • Avita (Retin A)

  • Differin (Acne medication)

  • Isotretinoin (Accutane)

  • Renova (Retin A)

  • Retin A (Acne and Anti-aging medication)

  • Tazarac (Acne medication)

  • Tazarotene (Tazorac)

  • Tretinoin (Retin A)

  • Bleaching agents for hair (used mostly for upper lip)

  • Bleaching agents for pigmentation of the skin (Hydroquinone, Trilumena)

  • Previous chemical depilatories such as Nair

  • Benzoyl Peroxide (ProActive)

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (Glycolic, Lactic)

  • Oral Antibiotics

  • Topical Antibiotics

  • Retinol

  • Salicylic Acid

  • Other exfoliants

General Contraindications and Policies

  • Full Disclosure: Many over-the-counter and prescription products are not compatible with waxing. As new products are constantly entering the market, we require all clients to list their current medications and skincare routines on the digital intake form provided in your confirmation email.

  • Skin Condition: Waxing cannot be performed on skin that is sunburned, irritated, or broken.

     

  • Moles: For safety reasons, hair will not be removed from moles.

     

  • Recent Procedures: 

    • Peels/Microdermabrasion: You must wait at least seven days after a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion before waxing.

    • Physician-Administered Peels: If you have had a medical-grade peel within the last two years, waxing is contraindicated.

    • Laser Resurfacing: You must wait a minimum of one year following laser skin resurfacing.

Aftercare and Sensitivity Management

  • Tanning: Avoid tanning booths on the day of your service. Following treatment, please wait at least 48 hours before sun exposure or tanning.

  • Post-Treatment Hygiene:

    • Refrain from taking hot baths or using abrasive scrubs on the treated area for 24 hours.

    • Avoid applying deodorant for 24 hours following an underarm wax.

  • Irritation: If localized irritation occurs, applying a thin layer of an antibiotic ointment can help maintain moisture and prevent infection.

  • Hormonal Sensitivity: Please be advised that sensitivity may increase during the week preceding your menstrual cycle.
